Prototype Proposal

Introduction

My trip to Belum Rainforest to do a research regarding Orang Asli few months ago gave me a new experience and it was quite significant. From my observation, I notice that the community lacks of communication with other tribes. Moreover, it is very hard to get communication coverage from Network Service Provider such as celcom, Maxis and others when they are in their village. In the other hand, it is expensive for the Orang Asli community to pay for the rental charge, calling charge and other charges if there's network in there. Hence, I would like to create an edutainment gadget that requires no monthly payment, no service charge and the most important thing is NO MONEY is needed.  Therefore I would like to introduce a new form of communication device that using radio wave which is “Callers Watch”.

Objectives

To help Orang Asli community to communicates with each other in a better and technological ways regardless tribes and location.

Target Audience

Orang Asli community with the minimum age of 12 year-old.

User Task

The user will need to push a “push to talk” button when they want to talk and release when they want to hear the reply.

Detail Gadget Description

This gadget will be using a technology of radio wave similar to walkie talkie.  By using this device, they don’t need phones to communicate and no need to subscribe from network service providers such as Maxis andr Celcom .They also not need to worry of coverage availability as this device use radio wave.

The callers watch have 8 channels and 38 sub channels with up to 30 kilometers range. It is for privacy issue that requires different channel to communicate. Some family might need using 807.3 channel and the other family will use 707.6 channel. So it protects the users’ privacy when they communicate. There would also be a channel for different tribes to communicate with each other.

The gadget looks slightly different compared to normal watch because it has a small antenna on its side. In the normal circumstance, the default display would be the current time as the normal watch.
